The official story is "H7 flu." Ashikaga is sealed off behind a quarantine checkpoint, yet the college town is still livestreaming, partying, and gearing up for a "Zero Flu" campus festival. Then Takeda Ren, 23, cuts her way in from the dead world outside with her grandfather's katana. She's chasing one set of initials, G.P., and it's tied to her sister's death.
Aoki Toru is a nervous, asthmatic piano major who won't stop talking. He sells his blood to the Kestrel lab for ¥30,000 a month. When a shipment of live specimens addressed to "G.P." breaks loose on the loading dock, the festival turns into a slaughter. Aoki gets bitten but never turns. Even stranger, his blood pushes Ren's infection back, and his other body fluids work even better.
The military locks the whole town down, with "thermal sterilization" set for 72 hours. A killer who only trusts her blade is now stuck with a chatty kid who might be the cure. And the friendly dean who offers them a ride has a shipping slip on his passenger seat that reads "ATTN: G.P."
